Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning Programme 2026

The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme under the Small Vessel Regime is a structured maritime training initiative designed to equip unemployed seafarers with practical experience and industry-relevant skills. This programme is offered through a partnership between the Department of Transport (DoT) and the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA). It provides a valuable opportunity for individuals who have maritime qualifications to gain hands-on exposure in vessel inspection, safety compliance, and operational support within South Africa’s maritime sector.

With a monthly stipend of approximately R4,600, participants will receive financial support while developing critical skills that can enhance their employability.
