Key Position Outputs and Responsibilities

Daily Operational Duties

  • Perform assigned daily tasks according to the specific equipment and operational area.
  • Handle various commodities in line with daily terminal operational requirements.
  • Ensure correct loading, offloading, stacking, and movement of cargo where applicable.
  • Operate within defined productivity, safety, and quality standards.

Equipment Operation and Monitoring

  • Operate terminal equipment under supervision and according to training level.
  • Monitor equipment performance during operations to identify potential defects.
  • Complete logbooks accurately, including operational data and defect reporting.
  • Report equipment malfunctions promptly to supervisors or maintenance teams.

Safety and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to all terminal safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Operate safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, when required.
  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and compliance training sessions.
  • Maintain situational awareness to prevent accidents and incidents.
  • Report all incidents, near misses, and accidents immediately.

Data and System Operations

  • Use data terminals where required to capture operational information.
  • Sign on to the terminal operating system (Navis) at the start of shifts.
  • Follow on-screen operational instructions and task directives accurately.
  • Acknowledge task completion at the end of each instruction cycle.
  • Ensure data accuracy to support terminal performance tracking and reporting.

  • Maintain clear and professional radio communication during operations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and control room personnel.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

Minimum Educational Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate is mandatory.
  • A TVET N6 qualification in Logistics or Transport is considered advantageous.
  • Candidates must demonstrate basic numeracy and literacy competence.

Licensing Requirements

  • A valid Code EB driver’s licence is mandatory.
  • Candidates must be able to provide proof of licence validity.
  • Defensive driving awareness is considered an added advantage.
